Fatherless German Turk Melih is ICT-gifted but keeps getting in trouble rather then ahead, consorting like autochthonous underdog mate Tobi with dodgy Internet shop owner Karsten. After they get caught with clever bank card data copy fraud, Melih is paroled in the care of his bossy sister Sibel, a by the book beat-cop about to be promoted, but luckily her softy husband Kurt mediates and takes handy Melih on to help start up his second hand and Internet shop. Tobi professes into Baris's Salafist band, which awakes initially stand-off Melih's interest. Karsten's "Second Handy" is closed, Melih deems a busybody Sibel a traitor to all his 'real family'.

Hanging out a few weeks with newly-converted white buddy Tobi, Melih's skepsis wears out, getting drawn into the 'friendly band' of Philip alias imam Abu Nour, who handles Islamic charity and community services, and charismatic Baris, who talks into the boys and puts them trough near-military physical training. Seeking revenge on Sibel, beat cop Andi beats up 'black brother' Melih bloodily for no reason, scaring junior partner Finn into a fake confirmation of 'resist to arrest', which charge Abu Nour and Baris 's lawyer handle for free, while Sibel's advice to lay low until his parole ends feels as treason. Melih is insulted by a failed family intervention with the moderate imam, who disappoints the kin by declaring Melih a lost cause, and moves out with Tobi in the Salafist HQ. State security agent Bahr warns Sibel imam Abu Nour is probably an IS recruiter and wants Melih to turn informer but Sibel declines the plan as too dangerous for her brother.

Still somewhat critical Melih and blindly-devoted Tobi are further brainwashed by Berrak and given military training by Baris, culminating in a ritual 'rebirth' and sacrificial lamb feast before transfer to an 'operational' hideout. Tobi expected to be sent to the IS-caliphate in Syria, where he Internet-dates a burka-girl, but as Melih feared, it's to be a domestic terror strike under Salafist commander Abu Nour. State security agent Bahr gives Sibel an ultimatum to recruit Melih, but she can't even find him, offers Andi a deal to use his local contacts network and is caught abusing utterly illegally, leading to her own arrest. Tired of her obsession and neglect of family, Sibels husband moves out with daughter Miriam. Bahr tricks Melih's jailed former dodgy employer.

The state security mobilizes for an imminent terrorist attack, as Baris is identified as presumed-dead IS commander Younes. Baris took Melih and Tobi to a hideout and tells the disappointed knaves which sacrifice is required: no heroic caliphate fight but a domestic bomb attack. Tactically instructed by Ali, they take goodbye from their known lives. paroled, Sibel illegally sits on a tip to find Melih, who flees with Baris while Toni detonates the suicide bomb inside. Desperate, Mehli's mother and sister seek the refugee at his father's tomb.
