Finnish Riitta, 66 and Kata from Uganda, 63 are closest of friends and together they are running sexual health and gender equality education in Uganda. Riitta has been in Uganda for 27 years. She has already passed the retirement age but returning to Finland feels daunting as her whole life is in Uganda. Suddenly Riitta and Kata find themselves trapped in chain of difficult events caused by anonymous allegation letter, addressed to Ugandan Parliament. Letter is accusing them for organizing workshops that are promoting and recruiting children to homosexuality.

"Misery and Fortune of Women", is a portrait about abortion and the realities of women from different backgrounds. Eisenstein captures stories revolving abortion (desired process or others that aren't but end up happening) and the harsh contrasts of a wide social abyss faced by women who have the conditions to go to a hospital and the ones who risk their lives in unsafe places.

After the 1950's, Through special immigration policies, many governments encouraged thousands of women from ex-colonies to leave their native countries, leaving behind their husbands, children and extended families to pursue what was presented as a batter life. For many of these abandoned children the only thing they grew up to know of their mothers was the occasional arrival of goods in boxes, crates and barrels. Those children are call Barrel Babies.
