No drug is harmless, but some people are at greater risk of harm and addiction. Per was already on sedatives during his childhood. Over time, he developed into a violent full-blooded drug addict. Robert, on the other hand, thinks he should be allowed to smoke cannabis a few times a month without society interfering.

For Elisabeth, the nightmare became everyday when her son Mathias slipped deeper and deeper into the amphetamine swamp. The drug abuse goes so far that he threatens to kill himself. Today, Elisabeth is active in the Parents' Association against Narcotics.

About 20,000 children are cared for each year for social reasons outside their parents' homes. Elsa and Ellinor are two of them. They were both taken into custody because they were abusing drugs. Ellinor has received help and is now drug-free. Elsa, on the other hand, has found her own way to, as she says, "cheat the system". That way she can continue taking drugs.

Krister was a heroin addict for 27 years. Everyone around him, including himself, thought his days were numbered. Today he is drug-free. The reason can be spelled out in a single word: Subutex. But the critics believe that Krister is not drug-free at all, but that he has merely exchanged one drug for another. Marcus Heilig, docent in psychiatry, and Christer Karlsson, chairman of KRIS, also participate.
