Helen and her husband were told they couldn't have children, so they adopted a little boy. He was treasured as the first grandchild in the family but eleven months later, his mother wanted him back. It was like a bereavement for Helen but when she heard of baby Kate, she jumped at the chance to adopt again. After a few months, Helen discovered she was pregnant with the first of four daughters. When Kate grew up, she found her natural family and while she could see similarities, it's her adoptive family she has a strong bond with. Dolores had a baby boy when she was a teenager. She didn't want to give him up, but she had no choice and went through decades of sorrow until they managed to reunite when he was an adult. Dolores was concerned, though, that she signed consent forms for the adoption as a minor, and that was illegal.
