Novoa, Layton and Herrmann were all arrested and convicted of various crimes regarding the death of Shannon Graves. They were all sentenced to varying amounts of time in prison.

Rockford, Illinois; On June 6, 2001, 42-year-old Barbara Purcell (she was known as Lorrie to her family) failed to show up at work. A welfare check by police leads to the discovery of her body in the basement of her home. Barbara had been brutally murdered in her once-quiet suburban home. He was arrested in 2003 and was found guilty at trial. He was sentenced to life in prison, but in 2015, he died in prison of cancer, after serving 12 years for Barbara's murder. During the investigation of Barbara's murder, detectives became aware that Willard's first wife, Crystal, had died in Rockford, Illinois on July 27, 1987 of eerily similar "coincidental" circumstances of falling down a flight of stairs leading to the basement.
