Surviving a zombie apocalypse beats being a wage slave any day. After spending years slaving away for a soul-crushing company, Akira's life has lost its luster. He lives in a trash-filled apartment, his pay is abysmal, and he can't even muster up the nerve to confess his love to his beautiful co-worker. But when a zombie apocalypse ravages his town, it gives him the push he needs to live for himself. Now Akira's on a mission to complete all 100 items on his bucket list before he...well, kicks the bucket.
Akira Tendo (Eiji Akaso), a 24-year-old office worker of ZLM, discovers himself trapped in a routine and meaningless life. Akira works for Gonzou Kosugi (Kazuki Kitamura). Kosugi makes Akira work very late nights from his first day on the job. The workplace is toxic as hell. Akira has to pull in several all night shifts in a row just to keep up with the work.Akira has a crush on co-worker Ohtori.
He lacks drive and motivation since he is disenchanted with his career; however, when a zombie apocalypse caused by experimental bio weaponry unexpectedly strikes Tokyo, everything is turned upside down.Instead of succumbing to dread, Akira sees this as an opportunity to experience life to the fullest rather than settle for his humdrum existence.Akira texts Ohtori and gets a response. Akira goes to meet her at her apartment, avoiding zombies along the way. Akira finds that the director of their firm is in Ohtori's apartment and has turned into a Zombie. Together, Akira and Ohtori kill the Zombie. But then Ohtori also changes into a zombie, as she had been bitten.Akira returns to his apartment and feels all alone in the world.
He decides to create a bucket list of everything he wants to do before dying in order to not only experience it firsthand but also to show that he is still alive and well. This decision is made with a newfound sense of purpose.Akira starts by cleaning his apartment. He shops at the supermarket, without caring about the price. Dyes his hair. Paints a self-portrait. Rides a motorcycle. Sets off fireworks and so on.
Akira calls his friend Kencho and finds out that Kencho is alive. Akira meets Shizuka Mikazuki (Mai Shiraishi) in a supermarket and learns that Zombies are attracted to sound. Akira goes to rescue Kencho from a love hotel in full American football gear to avoid being bitten by zombies. Kencho is happy to be rescued by Akira and both share a hearty meal together. Kencho sees Akira's list.One of Akira's wishes is to be a superhero who saves everyone. Akira decides to steal a shark suit from an aquarium. The suit is designed to withstand shark bites and Akira reckons it should be enough to save them from Zombies.
With the happy company of his friend, Kencho (Shuntaro Yanagi), Akira embarks on a number of exciting and frequently bizarre excursions throughout the zombie-infested city.Their pranks range from simple pleasures like eating at expensive restaurants for free to more extravagant pursuits like going on roller coasters and visiting haunted houses.
Akira and Kencho come across other survivors who have their own motivations for surviving as they make their way through the dangerous streets swarming with flesh-eating zombies.Turns out the aquarium is also the location for safe house nearest to Tokyo and the survivors are headed to it, including Shizuka.Shizuka is not in favor of Akira's style of doing stupid things and taking unnecessary risks. But when Shizuka is cornered by zombies, Kencho and Akira team up to save her. They take possession of a camper to travel to the aquarium. Shizuka is still cold towards Akira.
The guys take Shizuka for Yoga on a lake with paddle-boards, parasailing, campfire and they reach a hot spring. Kencho knows that Akira has feelings for Shizuka. Shizuka thanks Akira for helping her out.Eventually the trio reach the aquarium the following day, which is day 10 of the apocalypse. Akira finds Kosugi is in charge. Kosugi was filming a commercial there when the zombie attack spread. Kosugi turned the aquarium into a shelter and a safe house.
Kosugi shows how he runs a tight operation at the aquarium to keep everybody safe and fed. Is anyone objects, they are kicked out. Kosugi asks Akira to stay, but that means Akira would have to give up his list.Kosugi feasts like a King, while the rest are served scraps of food as their daily rations.
But one worker makes a mistake, while outside collecting supplies. A zombie gets on the truck without him knowing and makes its way to the aquarium. The aquarium is soon attacked by zombies and overwhelmed.Kencho was already planning to escape with Shizuka and asks Akira to come. Akira decides to stay at the Aquarium. Shizuka finds Akira's list inside the camper and decides to fight for him. She confronts Akira in front of Kosugi and says that if Akira stays, he is no better than zombies. Kosugi didn't know that Zombies had taken over part of the aquarium.Kosugi insults Akira by taking his list from Shizuka and stomping on it. Akira quits his job with Kosugi, just as the facility is overtaken by zombies. Kosugi saves himself, while Akira tries to save everyone he can.
Meanwhile zombies have bitten a great white shark in the aquarium, and it has also turned into a zombie and has grown legs. The shark is now chasing humans inside the aquarium.Akira guides everyone to safety and knows that Kosugi is outside and alone. He wants to save Kosugi as that's what superheroes do, and Kencho makes him wear the shark suit.
Akira and Kencho team up to distract the shark and save Kosugi. But they are cornered by the shark and more zombies, but that's when Shizuka arrives and plays loud music to distract the zombies. Shizuka lures all the zombies into the water with the music loudspeakers and the shark gets stuck in a hole in the wall.Akira and Kencho team up to electrocute the shark after it gets free from the wall.
The survivors now accept Akira as their leader and leave. Kosugi is abandoned by everyone as they believe that Kosugi was not a good leader at all.Akira leaves with Kencho and Shizuka. He allows his friends to add to his list, so they can complete it together.
