Summaries

Angelica Domröse talks about her acting career, including her studies, her films at DEFA, her engagement at the Berliner Ensemble and the Volksbühne. She describes her further career path after moving to West Berlin and comments generally on film work under today's conditions. In 1976, Angelica Domröse joined protests against the forced expatriation of dissident East German singer-songwriter Wolf Biermann. This oppositional stance made it increasingly difficult for her to get parts, and many productions in which she appeared were canceled or boycotted. She and her husband, actor Hilmar Thate, eventually left the GDR in 1980.—DEFA
