Set in Russia, in 1920, during the Russian Civil War. Andrei Shagan is a fisherman's son who is recruited by the White Russians to serve in the army of Baron Vrangel fighting against the communist Red Army. He saves the life of a Red Army officer Vlasov by hiding him in his father's house.
