A rich widower impregnates a poor young woman and dumps her. Her brother, member of a resistance group during the Occupation, tries to mend things up.

During the dark times of the German occupation of Athens, Nodas, and his bosom friend, Alekos Donis, find themselves forced to steal food and other supplies from the enemy to survive. Little by little, their dangerous activity turns into a form of resistance, and as a result, the Nazis, who are bent on stopping their plans, manage to capture Nodas and Alekos, along with some others, and send them to a concentration camp. In the meantime, Alekos' orphaned sister, Maria, has fallen in love with the compassionate and benevolent Athenian, Takis Makridis. Will the two companions escape death?
