Kiwako Nonomiya is heartbroken after Takehiro Akiyama, the married man she has been having an affair with, manipulates her into having an abortion with promises of marriage, only to refuse to divorce his wife. She later discovers that Takehiro's wife, Etsuko, is pregnant.
One morning, while Takehiro and Etsuko are away, Kiwako sneaks into their home and takes their six-month-old child. She raises the baby as her own while evading the law.
