What happens when you put four mischievous children together with a dog and a monkey? Lots of fun, of course! And that's what 'Yeh Hai Chhakkad Bakkad Bumbe Bo' is all about - lots of fun and adventure.
Vangaon is a small township with a fort, blue seashore and lush mangroves and a charming timelessness. It is far removed from the hustle-bustle of modern cities and has retained its purity and serenity with its simple innocent fisherfolks and good-hearted people.
Holidays are always fun-time for children and Ganesh too is having a great time playing with his friend Yashwanta, much to the concern of his mother Anusuya and father Arun, who is also the headmaster of the local school. Ganesh's joy knows no bounds when his cousin Dilip comes from Mumbai to spend the holidays, but Ganesh is just not happy that Dilip's younger sister Ulhas too has come with him.
Ulhas, a pretty young girl, is very keen to join Ganesh and Dilip in their games and adventures - like packing fish at the jetty, plucking mangoes off the tree in the mangroves, going to watch the local 'devi' ( a woman who is possessed) or singing and dancing with the local fisherfolks - but the boys always shoo her away. This upsets Ulhas very much and when she cries, Anusuya gets very agitated. She admonishes Ganesh and Dilip that they should include Ulhas with them. When Ganesh is adamant, his parents organize a competition - the one who makes 'rotis' well and can also climb a tree will win the competition. Of course, bright-girl Ulhas wins hands down and Ganesh comes last. Arun explains to Ganesh that girls are equal to boys and both should play and learn together.
Even as issues between the children are sorted out and they happily prance around the countryside, there is trouble afoot to disturb the peace and safety of Vangaon.
Don Douglas, a rich businessman who presumably exports fish, is actually a smuggler, tucking away opium inside the fishes. He cunningly takes advantage of Arun's innocence by hiring the schoolmaster's dilapidated house for his nefarious activities. This dilapidated house has a secret tunnel that opens to the seashore and Don Douglas uses this secret route to transport his opium-laden crates of fish.
Don Douglas can be very eccentric and funny, but can also be very dangerous, especially when someone crosses his path. As it happens with the local drunkard Dhanaji who is captured by Don's goons and killed.
On one of their frolic trips at the seashore, the children find the dead body of Dhanaji ! Though they remain tight-lipped about this, in the night they are scared of Dhanaji's ghost. When Ulhas says she is not scared of ghosts, Ganesh and Dilip challenge her to go to the dilapidated house which is haunted on new-moon night. Slipping out of the house at night, the children reach near the dilapidated house. Ulhas takes up the challenge and goes up the hill to the dilapidated house, but instead of finding any ghosts, she stumbles upon Don Douglas' goons who are stuffing opium into the fishes. She runs from there, chased by the goons and in a strange twist of fate, Ganesh and Dilip are caught by the goons and taken hostage.
How Ulhas, with the help of Yashwantha, his dog Birbal and the monkey Badshah rescue Ganesh and Dilip from the clutches of Don Douglas and his goons form part of an exciting action-filled adventure.
Our little heroes, of course come out trumps, fighting all odds and manage to get Don Douglas arrested and bring peace back to the township.
This simple fun-filled adventure story, apart from being entertaining, also talks about the fight between the good and the evil and the fact that girls need not be any less than boys. Yeh Hai Chhakkad Bakkad Bumbe Bo is all about 'The Sensational Six' who not only have fun, but also save the town from the evil.
