In a small mountain town, a man looking for revenge because of his daughter's accidental killing, mistakenly tracks out a young couple who are troubled enough by ordinary life problems.

Local farmer Theo is a man struggling to keep his family happy and fed. One day he heads out with a horse in a trailer hitched to the back of his car. Also in the trailer, hiding, is his young daughter who stowed away without permission. On a slippery road, things are about to change. A chain reaction has begun, a door has been opened, and the hand of fate has entered the game as an invisible player.

Beautiful blonde translator Rebecca lives with her boyfriend, ski instructor Marco, in a small mountain villa owned by her friend, nurse Laura. Rene, a cinema projectionist, steals Marco's car while in a daze and gets into a car crash with local farmer Theo, whose daughter, after being in a lengthy coma, dies. Rene suffers from partial short-term memory loss and starts a relationship with Laura.
