A family celebrates Christmas in a Norwegian log cabin. Old conflicts and a tragic secret cloud the mood.

Adult siblings Bastian, Annika, and Sanne Johnen are startled that the family Christmas reunion with (grand)parents Henri and Gitta is to be spent in Norwegian snow, not in Hamburg. Bastian never became independent, counting on parental support and money--no longer easily provided--for his ever-failing projects. no longer Accountant Annika, boring spoilsport for contractor husband Christoph and model 15-year-old son Simon, isn't amused; feeling unloved and like there must be more to life, she starts an affair with half-Danish ex-banker local Morten Sjörgen, whose aunt, retired teacher Finja Lund, owns the rented lodge. Academic doctor Sanne had preferred working with hospital 'flirt' colleague Mark Peters, but hides her pregnancy, failing a steady relationship, and susses Gitta's terminal cancer.
