SHAHANA, AAKIL, AGNES AND ERIC GO FOR A WEEKEND HOLIDAY TO KHANDALA TO A HOMESTAY RUN BY TAPTI KHANNA. THEIR IDEA OF LOVE AND LOYALTY GET CHALLENGED THERE.
Weekdays and Weekends is a 78-minute feature in Hinglish that observes from a distance both physical and metaphorical, the lives of four young professionals, perhaps products of a liberal arts institution working in various forms of mass media in this digital age in the commercial capital of India, Mumbai. Shahana alias Sherry, Agnes, Aakil and Eric are a group of friends with their lives intertwined, as Agnes is Aakil's ex-girlfriend and Eric's current, while Sherry is in an undefined relationship with Aakil. The two couples decide to go for a weekend vacation to a nearby homestay in Khandala, a small hill station in the western ghats near Mumbai. The homestay is run by a single mother Tapti Khanna and her man Friday Gopal. Tapti's daughter studies in Mumbai. The film navigates its way through the lives of these five characters. Sherry is temperamental, unpredictable and a nature lover. She is not committed to Aakil but at the same time shares a comfort zone with him. Aakil is restless about being single and his to be or not to be state after his breakup with Agnes and is desperate to pair up. Agnes on the other hand feels vacuous with Eric who is way too pragmatic and boring, while she pines for passion all the time. On a rebound, Aakil seduces Tapti. Things get complicated between Eric, Agnes, Akil and Sherry and reach a breaking point. As the weekend vacation comes to an end Eric and Agnes find a reason to warm up to each other, while Aakil's moral ambiguity takes its toll vis a vis Tapti and Sherry.—SHARAD RAJ
