Nothing goes to plan when four vintage Matchbox construction toys escape from captivity and head out for a road-movie in miniature. But these toys are made of tough stuff. They'll be back.
Four vintage Matchbox construction toys tire of their 25 years in captivity and plot their escape. The trackless bulldozer named Headless Leader takes charge. A cement mixer named Mixy, an ancient, father fragile-looking toy named Dainty Digger, and the robust, original cockney Yeller all follow. The toys plan to visit the factory of their birth - the Lesney Matchbox factory - but when they arrive at the place where it used to stand, they find chichi flats in its place. Undaunted, they pick a new destination - the London 2012 Olympic site, where they plan to get jobs and in the process, become famous 'construction athletes.' Things don't go to plan. Instead of easily finding a way in, the toys find a heavily-fortified site, complete with razor-wire, CCTV cameras everywhere, and electrified fences. This looks more like a prison than a place of work. After the toys try a couple of strategies for breaking-in, passing security guards with dogs warn them off. The toys speed away but hang about in local Hackney Wick. They'll be back!—Alistair Siddons
