EKLA CHALO (walk alone) Synopsis Gandhiji's 150th birth anniversary is celebrated through the coming of age of Kalyani Rao, an Indian student who returns to her grandparents' home in Pune India, to complete her doctoral thesis on Gandhiji and Contemporary Pune. Adverse reactions from her grandfather and a general apathy among her school friends leads to a crises that is compounded by increasing evidence of environmental collapse and excess urban congestion. Gandhiji's dream of 'gram swaraj' and his lessons for self-discipline help Kalyani practice naturopathy; she undertakes a fast for self cleansing and experiences a closer connection with Gandhiji with the help of archival footage that she has been seeing as a part of her thesis work. She no longer sees her scholarship and her academic career as the most important parts of her life and realizes that there are greater issues and commitments that she must pursue in order to achieve higher goals in life. (The film is made, not to entertain, but to convey Bapu's message of love, tolerance, peace and equality)
