Based in small town Oklahoma in the 1980s, this is a coming-of-age story of two brothers escaping their tragic circumstances with the help of an unlikely friend and baseball.

WAKEFIELD begins when the town's beloved baseball field is torn down to make way for a more lucrative football field. The Trip-Cs (middle schoolers Gene, Amy, and James) set out on a journey to build a field of their own so James has a place to practice his way up to the major leagues. That is when they come upon the mysterious Sonny Wakefield who just so happens to have an old rotting field on his farm. Rumor has it, Sonny Wakefield killed a man, but as Gene and James become closer and closer to him, carefully hidden secrets of their mother, Ann, and her family's past about the untimely death of her husband, Artie (Gene and James' father), are soon uncovered, leading to the ultimate redemption story.
