Virtually History' is a transformative special that gives viewers a uniquely immersive look at a monumental moment in our history: the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Virtually History: The Berlin Wall is a hybrid documentary and VR experience that transports us back in time to tell the story of an iconic moment in world history. Commissioned to coincide with the 30-year anniversary of the fall of the wall, historian Emma Dabiri takes 3 contributors back to Cold War Berlin to explore the role their families played in the story of the so-called 'Wall of Shame'. 20-year-old Anton experiences the secret tunnel his grandfather built beneath the wall; 28-year-old Franzy steps into the moment her grandparents fled from the Stasi, and 18-year-old Janek relives the celebrations as the wall fell, just as his uncle did in 1989. Also along for the ride are 3 YouTube creators, who all have an emotional connection to the story and want to find connections to the modern world. Designed to get a younger audience engaged in history and featuring a unique immersive VR 'click through' experience, Virtually History represents a completely new form for specialist factual programming.
