When a woman dies in a supposed accident, her parents suspect their son-in-law of foul play. When the police begin to agree, the murder suspect vanishes.

In 1979 Toledo, Ohio, naive Shannon Mohr goes to a wedding, where she meets charming Dave Davis, who tells her that he is a former football player and Vietnam veteran who studied pharmacology, and seduces her. Two months later, they get married in a little chapel in Las Vegas and move to a farm in Michigan. Soon Shannon learns that Dave was married and he is a liar. When her parents Lucille and Bob Mohr visit them at their farm, Dave has an argument with Shannon and invites her to go horseback riding. Then he goes to the farm of his neighbor and friend Dick Britton telling that Shannon fell from the horse and hit her head on a stone. Shannon dies and there is a poor investigation of the local police and no autopsy, and Dave says that Shannon wanted to be cremated, but Lucille and Bob oppose this and have her buried. Soon they discover that Dave has six life-insurance policies and will receive a large amount for Shannon's death, and he's also a liar. They decide to reopen the investigation into their daughter's suspicious death, and call for media attention to it. The efficient Detective Don Brooks is in charge of the investigation and finds evidence that Dave murdered Shannon--but Dave has vanished and finding him proves virtually impossible.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
