An ex-POW gets romantically involved with his friend's wife, but a get-together in the countryside results in tragedy that sends their illicit affair into a downward spiral.

After returning home from being a prisoner of war, Captain Viktor Aaltona (Jussi Jurkka) gets a job from his friend, Rolf Bergas (Tauno Palo) with whom he had served. The men trust each other until Viktor meets Rolf's wife Astrid (Elina Pohjanpää). The movie is based on a short novel by the famed Finnish Author, Mika Waltari.
