Trapped in a persistent creative rut, an overworked and uninspired film director needs help writing a script for his next movie. To get production going, the filmmaker comes up with a cheap melodrama involving a successful man, haunted by a profound midlife crisis, who wants out of his dead-end marriage. With his newfound freedom, the protagonist embarks on a tempestuous love affair with a beautiful woman, looking for meaning and purpose in life. However, the question remains unanswered.
