On his journey around the country, Volle has reached Copenhagen with his sharpener's wheelbarrow, where he calls people to the windows with his sharpener's song in a farm on the outskirts of the city. Volle is an old vagabond who loves his freedom more than anything in the world. His work gets him just enough for the day and the road - and a schnapps in addition, and he doesn't ask for more from life.
