Belief is life's biggest gamble
The story is about the soul-searching of those people leading small lives, searching for little happiness, only to fall into big predicaments. Based upon the logic of "winning-and-losing", these soul-searchings are directed towards their loved ones, towards life in general but, most importantly, towards themselves. Needless to say, as usual, it is a woman who suffers most within these patriarchal soul-searchings.—Melek Seven
When Gültens Turkish family discovers she has fallen in love with a truck driver, Fariz, they forbid her to see him; believing a match below her status would bring dishonor to their family.
Unwilling to be forced apart and with no regard to the ire they would stir in Gültens family, the impetuous young lovers secretly elope to the small town of Samandra . Young love sustains them, and their new life appears complete when Gülten gives birth to a son.
Short of money and with a new baby to provide for, their relationship becomes strained. Fariz drives longer shifts and Gülten finds work at a local supermarket. Unknown to her, Fariz has secretly reverted to his old gambling habit and is losing. The couple becomes increasingly distant as Fariz is consumed with the guilt and financial burden from chasing his growing losses.
As pressure mounts the couple is forced to examine the choices they made for love and face the consequences of their devotion, when a face appears from Gültens past bent on restoring family honor and Fariz considers one last bet that could lead to the ultimate betrayal.
