Kirby kills a man in self-defense and becomes a fugitive from the police.

In an effort to reach his wife's deathbed, Kirby is forced to kill a man in self-defense. He is arrested by Selwyn, a member of the North West Mounted Police, who allows him to say a last farewell to his wife. After visiting his wife's deathbed, Kirby eludes Selwyn and becomes a fugitive from the police. Each year he returns to visit his son and, during one of his sojourns, meets Margy, a little farmhouse servant who has run away from her life of drudgery. Kirby helps her cross the American border into Canada where she is adopted by the Mounted Police. Years later Margy and Selwyn fall in love and he tells her of the one man who had escaped him and shows her Kirby's picture. Innocently, Margy allows Selwyn to discover Kirby's yearly visits to his son, and the fugitive is finally arrested. Through the aid of Selwyn and Margy, however, he proves that he acted in self-defense, and all ends happily as Kirby is acquitted.

Kirby, the object of relentless pursuit by Richard Selwyn, of the Mounted, promises to return on each anniversary of the birth of his motherless little daughter "until they get me." He confides his secret to Margy and she accidentally reveals it to Selwyn. An ingenious complication rises with a novel solution.—Moving Picture World synopsis
