Retired civil engineer Richard has left his native northern Germany for Canada and now runs a lodge with his granddaughter Karen in his idyllic home in Vancouver Bay. With his fierce nature, however, he is not exactly the perfect host for his holiday guests and the spirited Karen causes more stress than he would like. Thanks to a lawyer friend and a policeman, he is always able to get her out of various problems. In Vancouver he meets the German star chef Iris and the Canadian pilot Adrian , who completely reorganize their lives when they meet Richard.—ADR Das Erste
