Summaries

'Under the Umbrella Tree' is a documentary detailing the work of a children's home (Bright Kids Uganda) in Entebbe, Uganda and its founder Victoria Nalongo. It raises awareness of the relationship between education, human security, and sustainable development. Nalongo has rescued over 100 children, who may have otherwise perished in internally displaced peoples camps, on the streets of Uganda, or from extreme poverty. Nalongo provides them with food, education, their basic necessities, and a secure and loving home. Despite, a country devastated by civil conflict, extreme poverty, HIV/AIDS, and the Lord's Resistance Army, the resilience of the Ugandan spirit was never destroyed. Rather, it fostered a new generation of Ugandans who took their country back from the brink of devastation, working towards a bright future for their children.—Anonymous
