Asumi Kamogawa (Nanami Sakuraba) has always held a strong interest in outer space, influenced by her father Tomoyuki Kamogawa (Masahiro Takashima). When Asumi was a young child, Tomoyuki designed Japan's first manned rocket named "The Lion." Unfortunately, the rocket crashed into their very own hometown, killing many of the residents. Her father felt responsible the mishap and has carried a deep sense of guilt ever since. Once Asumi graduates from middle school she decides to enter the Tokyo Space Academy, a high school for aspiring astronauts. Synopsis

The launch of Japan's first manned spaceflight mission ends in disasterwhen the liquid rocket booster fuel catches on fire soon after afterliftoff and the rocket crashes into the city of Yuigahama, causing manycasualties among residents. The story focuses around Asumi Kamogawa andher mentor (The ghost of astronaut whom she can only see, and calls bythe name Mr. Lion) Asumi's mother was a victim of the rocket crash andended up in a coma for five years which soon after she passed away.Asumi grew up with her father, who is a construction worker.Asumi wantsenter into space school. She soon parts with Mr. Lion and her father,and enters into the Space School, where she meets Fuchuya (herchildhood friend), Shu, Kei and Marika.
