Infatuated with Rita, the alluring and statuesque cabaret diva of the notorious "Golden Mermaid" nightclub, day in and day out, the cryptic handsome stranger, Argiris, visits the club to hear her sing. Having eyes only for him, Rita allows herself to believe that the suave man in the impeccable suit is the one who can take her away from the dangerous world she calls her "home", unbeknownst to her, however, that Argiris, too, is harbouring an unexpected secret. But, before long, Spiros, the unscrupulous owner of the seedy nightspot frequented by cut-throats, streetwalkers, and plain-clothes detectives, sends Rita off to keep a wealthy client company, while in the meantime, the success of a lucrative job is at stake.
