Synopsis

Tribal is a one-hour, character-driven crime drama set in a large Metropolitan city surrounded by four Indian Reserves. The department of Federal Justice attempts to save political face under the mask of inclusion and collaboration with the controversial appointment of a young, female, indigenous Chief of Tribal Police and pairing her with a big-city detective to tackle indigenous-related crime in the city.

Thrust into an unfamiliar world, new Chief Samantha Woodburn must navigate politics and procedure as she clashes with her seasoned but broken-down partner Chuck "Buke" Bukansky. TRIBAL examines First Nation crime stories based on real world cases including mistaken identity, pipeline controversy, healing lodge justice, social services, tobacco, hostages and missing Indigenous Peoples.

The Justice Department partners Sam and Buke in TRIBAL's first season. They begrudgingly work together before uncovering the largest scandal in the history of the city - a tomb, full of murdered indigenous bodies. After Sam and Buke's discovery, they are unsure of who to trust. Connie Harris appoints Victoria Mann as the new leader of a task force as they try to determine who is responsible for the tomb. Later, a white poacher is found dead on a reserve and Sam and Buke come face-to-face with the memory of Buke's shooting. Season 2 explores healing lodge dynamics, trauma caused by PTSD, a hostage situation and the resurrection of the Starlight Tours. The divide between the Metro and Tribal police departments escalates, affecting Sam and Buke's partnership.
