In the Turkish-occupied Greece of the 18th century, Menousis when the Turks would kill his wife, decides to climb the mountains and along with the thieves to fight for the liberation of his country.

Epirus 1880. After the arrest and execution of his father, Manousos' mother sends him to Wallachia. As the years pass by and Manousos grows into a fine young man, he decides to return to his village with his wife, Randa, only to discover that his mother has died. And as if that weren't enough, the Turks' unscrupulous, long-time collaborator, Mourtos, has taken ownership of the family's only property, a fertile plot of land.
