On the night of May 13th, 1940, the little village Bjerkvik outside Narvik was attacked by nine British warships, and got bombed and destroyed. The reason for this was that the Allies had received information that German forces were there. By the time the Allies arrived, the German forces had already left the village and only the village's population was there. 14 civilians were killed in the violent attack, among them Magne Øymo's twin brother Kjell and his mother Marie. Magne (aged 88) is one of the survivors of the attack, and is now telling us how it happened, and how it affected his life.—chribren
