In a small town where he is waiting for his train, reporter-photographer Walter Hermelin meets Catherine Ferrer, a female lawyer who has just obtained the acquittal of a man accused of having killed his alcoholic father. Catherine must now plead in a libel suit against a wine-selling company and she has the idea to ask Walter to help her get exhibits incriminating the wine merchants.
