Inspired by Spyridon Peresiadis' play "Esme, the Turkish Girl", the movie recounts the forbidden love affair between the brave Greek Klepht, Drosos--the handsome son of Captain Seratos--and the charming Turkish girl, Esme. Of course, against the backdrop of the Turkish Occupation of Greece, their relationship is not only dangerous but also impossible; however, love is above race, colour, and religion. Under those circumstances, Drosos has to fight tooth and nail for the nation's freedom, and Esme, who has embraced Christianity, supports the Greek rebellion, waiting for the day to marry her beloved.—Nick Riganas
