Originally a Midlands-only "links" programme presented by Chris Tarrant and John Asher, Tiswas is chiefly remembered for evolving into a nationally broadcast comedy show with Chris joined by Sally James, Bob Carolgees and Lenny Henry.
A Saturday morning kids program, whose title was variously an acronym for "This Is Saturday, What A Show!", "Today Is Saturday, Wear A (or Wake-up And) Smile!", and "This Is Saturday, Watch And Suffer!". Classic cartoons were interspersed with wild, anarchic skits about Flan, and special appearances by then-hot pop stars.—Mike Konczewski
A British children's television series which lasted from 1974 to 1982. It was originally created as part of ITV's regional programming for the English Midlands, but it was eventually broadcast by nearly every ITV region. The show featured comedy sketches, parodies of BBC's programming, competitions, and segments from various films. The main host from 1974 to 1981 was the comedian Chris Tarrant. When he left to host his own late-night show, Tarrant was replaced by Sally James for the series' final year. The regular members of the cast included Lenny Henry, Jim Davidson, Bob Carolgees, and John Gorman.—Dimos I
