The Saigo family is about to marry their daughter, Chiaki, to her boyfriend, Hamaguchi Shuichi, whose family have been fishermen for generations. While the two families are not satisfied with each other, the young couple decided to get married anyway since they are deeply in love. However, five days later on 11 March 2011, an earthquake and tsunami strike eastern Japan and the destinies of the two families are drastically changed as the Hamaguchi lose everything they have and some of them, including Shuichi, die.
