Summaries

The true story of a woman on the Mexican border determined to raise her children with her female partner.

"Tierra madre" is based on the true story of Aidée, an aging Tijuana pole dancer who is determined to provide for her daughter. Same-sex marriage and artificial insemination not legally permitted in Mexico (at the time), her female partner convinces her to go on the hunt for a male to conceive. Filmed in a week with a $2000 budget, a one-man crew, and an all female non-professional cast, it won the Morelia Film Festival.—Carlos Sarabia
