A brash durian seller is caught in a love triangle between a nightclub hostess and a doctor. He gets to know the latter's young son, and the boy changes his life forever.

Nightclub hostess Mei Mei is in love with handsome durian seller Hao. In order to win his affections, she tries all ways and means, but he remains unmoved. Instead, he nurses a crush on the classy doctor Sally. Due to his brash nature, Hao is a frequent visitor to the hospital's emergency department. Sally has a son, Jack, who suffers from leukemia. When Jack is dying, Hao takes him to the durian garden that he always wanted to visit, to see the King of the Durians fall from the tree. In order to fulfill Jack's last wish, Hao pretends to be Jack's father, with the help of Mei Mei. The boy passes away peacefully in Hao's arms, leaving behind a letter, which makes Hao realize the preciousness of life. He finally decides to take charge of his life, and accepts Mei Mei.
