An Austrian prince flees his homeland after the Nazis take over and settles in London. While in London, he meets a beautiful Austrian émigré who makes him realize his mistake in leaving Austria. Set against the turbulent background of Hitler's invasion of Austria, Prince Kurt Von Rotenberg (George Brent), a dispossessed Austrian prince, and Marta Keller (Martha Scott), fall in love on a ship bound for America. Marta's father, Professor Keller (Egon Brecher), disapproves of their romance and they go their separate ways. Kurt becomes a London playboy and romances socialite Barbara Murdock (Kay Linaker). Marta and her father open a Viennese restaurant and dedicate themselves to helping fellow refugees.
