Gold bullion worth USD 1 billion has been stolen from a hijacked train in Denmark. The main suspect is Count Massimo Contini. The US government sends Matt Helm, one of its top agents, to investigate and recover the gold.

The count has stolen enough gold to cause a financial crisis in the world markets so I.C.E. sends in ace spy Matt Helm to stop him. As Matt works alone, the British send in Freya to aid Matt, but it seems that Freya causes more problems than she solves.—Tony Fontana <[email protected]>

Count Contini masterminds the theft of $1 billion in U.S. gold being transported in Europe. This will cause gyrations in the world's financial markets, and Contini will profit from it. ICE chief MacDonald summons Matt Helm, "busy" photographing women models. MacDonald, in effect, makes Matt a Judas Goat, exposing his cover and encouraging Contini to make a move against Matt. The ICE agent will deal with Contini's former lover, current lover, a British woman agent, and Contini's lovely Asian operative before the final showdown with the Count.—Bill Koenig

After pulling off a daring and well-orchestrated train heist, evil criminal mastermind Count Massimo Contini manages to get his hands on $1 billion in gold bullion, intent on collapsing the international stock market and the world's economy. Under those pressing circumstances, Matt Helm, an easygoing playboy and fearless U.S. counter-espionage agent, has forty-eight hours to retrieve the gold, starting from Denmark. But there, faced with the suave count's unstoppable army of henchmen, Matt's maladroit guide Freya Carlson does more harm than good. Will Matt's state-of-the-art gadgets and the unique MiniCopter help him save the day?—Nick Riganas

A train in Denmark, carrying $1 billion dollars in gold bars, has to slow for a stalled vehicle on the tracks. It is actually part of a clever ploy to allow a band of gunmen to climb aboard the slow-moving train and overpower the armed guard accompanying the gold. The mastermind behind the magnum heist is Count Massimo Contini. The loss of this much gold will destabilize both the British and U.S. economies. Before word of this potential financial crisis can leak out, Matt Helm is called with the hopes that he can recover it within 48 hours. The authorities have little information to go on, so they intentionally leak Matt cover story hoping that it will draw out some leads. Their hope resides mainly in Lola Medina, a former playmate of the count. She asks Matt to her apartment where she makes a deal to exchange information for a $1 million payoff. She confirms that the culprit is Contini as she heard him discussing Operation Rainbow before they split up. Matt is assisted by a Danish Tourist Bureau representative, Freya Carlson, who is really a British agent in disguise. She has an annoying habit of interrupting Matt's advances on an important woman in the count's court. One is his current fiancée, Linka Karenski. Another is his chief Hong Kong agent, Wen Yu-Rang. A crucial assault on the count's chateau is possible because of a mini helicopter that is stored in his vehicle's trunk. Three large bags contain an easy to assemble craft that can carry two passengers.—Garon Smith
