The film tells the story of Qiu Jin and her involvement in revolutionary uprisings against the Qing Dynasty in Anhui province. Influences on her life are shown through a series of flashbacks.

At the end of the 19th century, Qiu Jin grew up in a literary family .She pursued equality between men and women. Qiu left home after arguing with her husband and went to Japan to study. During this period, she met a group of friends. Their fate would rise and fall with the flood of chaos.
