A Soviet stop-motion animated adaptation of the fantasy novel "The Wizard of the Emerald City" (1939) by Alexander Melentyevich Volkov and its first few sequels. The original novel was itself loosely based on the American novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", and features alternate versions of the Land of Oz and its cast of characters. The 9-year-old girl Ellie Smith (based on Dorothy Gale) and her pet dog Totoshka are transported to the Magic Land by a hurricane. She is told that she would require the help of the wizard Goodwin, the Great and the Horrible, in order to return to her homeland. To locate this elusive wizard, Ellie has to follow the Yellow Brick Road towards the Emerald City. Ellie soon realizes that the task is not as simple as it sounds.—Dimos I
