Synopsis

A widow with dementia, living alone in a desolate marshland, prepares tea, sets up two cups and brings them to a table looking out over a freezing desolate water-land. She sits down, gazes outside and suddenly hears footsteps and a chair being pulled out. She looks in the direction of the sound, but sees there is nobody there. This makes her feel sad and lonely. She looks out of the window that she is sitting in front of and sees herself standing on a small island in front of the house. It is winter and cold, but she is standing there in her dress... freezing. Inside the house there is a light orb that moves from where the widow was sitting to the kitchen. The widow outside looks at it with deep sadness.You see the widow walk towards the kitchen window, searching for something. She clears the humidity from the window and looks outside. There is nothing there. She is looking for her husband. A voice-over tells us an internal monologue.She wakes up at night, thinking she heard something. Outside in the dark at the border of the marshland she sees a light orb approach her... she tries to touch it because she believes this is an apparition of her long lost husband that has returned to console her grief. But as she tries to touch the orb it always stays just out of her grasp. This leaves her lonely in the dark.She starts realizing something is wrong with the situation and feels she has lost a part of her. It is not only her husband she has lost, but also a piece of herself. Emotionless she stands in her empty house and outside the house with her wedding veil and dried wedding bouquet.At night she is laying down Tarot cards and she draws the Devil and Death card. She is not surprised by that and anticipates her cause, to be reunited with her husband.That night a mysterious creature with a black cloak and a mirror mask visits her in her room... is it Death? She welcomes him and kisses his mirrored mask hoping this will bring her closer to her dead husband. It however was just a dream. A light orb leaves her room and she wakes.Her sadness and grief hit her hard and she lays on the floor crying. She can't take it anymore. Her only way out is to end her misery... she walks up to the lake and drowns herself. After this has happened a light orb is seen flying over the lake.Somehow time has created a loophole... the widow is hanging up laundry in front of the house. She suddenly hears someone singing from inside the house. She is astonished to hear this sound and goes in to see what is going on. She enters the house and sees it is all empty. There is no furniture anymore, nothing on the walls,... it appears to have been abandoned years ago. The widow doesn't understand the situation and runs outside in fear and in doubt of her whole existence. She ends up on the small island in front of the house and sees a light orb fly in her house from window to window. As she watches this happen slowly she feels her presence fade away until she suddenly disappears into nothing. A light orb flies away from where she was standing before. The End.
