The Vigilante, a masked government agent, is assigned to investigate the case of the "100 Tears of Blood", a cursed string of rare blood red pearls sought by a gang led by the unknown X-1 that may have been smuggled into the country.
Chapter One THE VIGILANTE RIDES AGAIN - The Vigilante (Ralph Byrd), government undercover agent, is in reality Greg Sanders, Western movie star. His dual identity is known only to his assistant Stuff (George OffermanJr.) An assignment takes Greg and Stuff to the ranch of wealthy George Pierce (Lyle Talbot). Other guests include Prince Amil (Robert Barron), a mysterious potentate; his aide Hamid (Ted Adams); Betty Winslow (Ransay Ames), a rodeo queen; Captain Reilly (Hugh Prosser) of the Sheriff's office, and Tex Collyer (Ted Mapes), a rancher. Amil announces that he is giving white horses to Pierce, Greg, Collyer, Betty and Reilly.Pierce seems upset at this, indicating that he expected to receive all five horses himself. Later, in one of his barns, Pierce has an argument with Hamid and knocks him unconscious. A fire starts and Pierce escapes leaving Hamid. Stuff is trapped in the barn when he attempts to rescue Hamid. The latter regains consciousness long enough to mutter something about a curse on each of the gift receivers. Chapter Two MYSTERY OF THE WHITE HORSES - Stuff forces the limp body of Hamid into a barrel and, getting in one himself, manages to roll both barrels through the flame and out of the barn to safety. Hamid is found to be dead. Later, Pierce, acting s a gang leader known as X-1, instructs two of his legion of henchmen to seize the white horse Greg received from the , now dead, Prince. Foiled in their first attempt at horse theft, the mobsters manage to weaken the coupling between a trailer with Greg, Stuff , and the cursed horse, and a car driven by rodeo queen Betty. Chater Three DOUBLE PERIL - A stream breaks the fall of the careening trailer, and Greg, Stuff and the first cursed horse encounter's X-1's henchmen. A wild chase and a thrilling fight ensues, but the henchmen make an escape.They are now acting under orders to steal Betty's cursed white horse and are seen lurking around the rodeo grounds. During Btty's act, something goes wrong. Making a transfer from her horse to a swiftly-moving driver-less stagecoach, Betty misses the reins of the stagecoach horses and becomes a passenger. Those horses go wild, run out of the arena and into the path of a landing airplane. Taking advantage of the confusion, the henchmen make off with cursed white horse number two. Greg rides to Betty's rescue, but it doesn't seem as if he can catch the stagecoach. Betty faces certain death. To Be Continued.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
Chapter Four DESPERATE FLGHT - Just as the coach is about to crash headlong into the coach, Greg reaches the lead horse and saves Betty. The Vigilane and Stuff give chase to the cursed-horse-two thieves. Reinforcements from the mobsters prevent Greg from capturing the thieves, but they are forced to release Betty's cursed horse. Pierce pretends to be surprised at all these events, but secretly, he orders liquidation of the Vigilante, never suspecting he is Greg. The mobsters again attempt to steal Betty's horse, but the Vigilante arrives in time to foil their effort. Fighting one of the would-be horse thieves on the edge of a high-building roof, the Vigilante is shot by the latter's cohort. Both men fall. To Be Continued.—Les Adams <[email protected]>
