A woman tells a girl who's just been rescued from a notorious rake, four stories of men from her own life, one of whom she had to kill to protect herself.

Locale: Paris. Following the rescue of a young girl from a notorious rake, Nanon tells her the story of the men in her own life: A seducer, who just pulled the same line on the innocent girl; Pierre, owner of a gambling joint, who meant well and gave her a job as a roulette wheel shill; an Englishman on the make, whom Nanon killed in defending herself from his advances; and the man she married, who gave her the air when he learned of her past. Nanon hails a cab for the girl, discovers the driver to be Pierre, learns that he sacrificed everything to cover up for the shooting she committed, and finally finds happiness with him.
