"The Strange Case of Normalcy" is a subtle examination of how each of us lives on the edge of normalcy while we construct an illusion of "the normal" by which we define ourselves. All of us strive to appear to be 'normal' and pretend to be 'normal' even as the boundaries blur. Five ethnically diverse friends who graduate from an Ivy League institution, consider themselves smart. They are aware though, of the fragile boundaries of the human mind. The story unfolds how each of them experiences serious issues of isolation, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, and anxiety, suicidal thoughts and how they live on the edge of time.
"The Strange Case of Normalcy" deconstructs our presumptuous notions of normalcy while we construct an illusion of "the normal" by which we define ourselves. Society likes to label people. But what about our own mental struggles? Nishi Chawla's second feature film, "The Strange Case of Normalcy" is about the mental challenges that many smart and normal folks also experience. It is a dark movie with two suicides, depression, schizophrenic behavior, mood swings and anxiety that many normal folks feel. "The Strange Case of Normalcy," has won the 'Outstanding Achievement" award at Singapore's World Film Carnival and a nomination at the Montreal Independent Film Festival. It is also an award winner at three other International Film Festivals - Jaipur international film festival, Druk international film festival, Bhutan, and Sikkim International Film festival. Five results declared so far, and the movie has not only been accepted by all five, but has also won awards, including Best Film by a Woman Writer/Director.More results to come in 2022.
