A young boy in Silver Spur, New Mexico, thinks he's a gunslinger and with his friend Amy returns to the days of Billy the Kid where they learn lessons about bullying and the Wild West.
William Jeffers Kidd, an outcast boy, gets revenge on his tormentors using supernatural powers. That help comes from the ghost of Billy the Kid whose 1873 Winchester rifle he finds, then hides again. A group of archaeologists subsequently find the weapon and it begins its magical actions. William's uncle, Sheriff Gary Kidd, learns to deal with his anger and frustration, as his stepmother Angela finally deals with his bullying son.
