Synopsis

Ernesta Snoop (Helen Hayes), a best-selling mystery author, lives in New York City with her widowed sister, Gwendolyn Snoop Nicholson -- or "G" (Mildred Natwick), as she is affectionately known -- who serves as her secretary. As they work on Ernesta's books, one strange occurrence after another pulls them into real-life mysteries which they usually end up working with their nephew, Lt. Steve Ostrowski (Bert Convy) of the NYPD. Their chauffeur, Barney (Lou Antonio), who also serves as their cook and bodyguard, is a reformed criminal who frequently accompanies them on their escapades. These two native New Yorkers seem to know everyone and their pasts, and their unique connections get them the best of both worlds: access to official police information through their nephew and to the nonviolent criminal underworld through Barney.
