Based on ReShonda Tate Billingsley's novel of the same name, The Secret She Kept, a successful magazine executive marries a driven lawyer, who's on the cusp of a major promotion, only to discover that his wife is severely bi-polar. The movie explores the meaning of love and the vow of "in sickness and in health."—TVONE

Lance's sister notices that "there's something a little bit off" with Tia. However, Lance proposes then elopes marrying Tia. Lance loves Tia and takes his vow to love "in sickness" seriously, once he begins to suspect his wife is mentally ill. Tia's mother is overprotective and attempts to protect her by encouraging Tia to lie to Lance. This story exposes some of the behaviors families exhibit in order to hide mental illness. Lance's love for Tia is faithful as she goes through a major episode. Well worth watching and discussing. Tia, has a schizoaffective bipolar diagnosis. Schizoaffective disorder is a chronic mental health condition characterized primarily by symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations or delusions, and symptoms of a mood disorder, such as mania and depression.—Angela Reno
