The son of a shipowner is in love with a poor seamstress. When his father reacts to their love, he abandons his wealth and becomes a composer of a folk song, in order to live together.

More than anything in the world, Nikos, an aspiring singer and son of the self-made shipowner, Stathis Stathatos, wants to marry his secret sweetheart, Vaggelio. However, Nikos' haughty mother and his cruel father oppose this union, as the honest but impecunious woman is a humble seamstress. As a result, Nikos renounces his riches to pursue his dream, unbeknownst to him that a shocking, well-hidden family secret is standing in the way of the young couple's happiness. Has the past returned to haunt the singer and the seamstress?—Nick Riganas
