Set in the 1880's, a rich young man from the middle class falls in love with the daughter of a local count and sets in motion a series of conflicts with the aristocrats of Zante.

In late-nineteenth-century Zakynthos, against the backdrop of long-established prejudice and ongoing class discrimination between the haughty aristocracy and the humble petite bourgeoisie, the aspiring lawyer, Zepos Pebonaris, falls in love with the pampered daughter of Conte di Maras, Elda.
